‘Bangabandhu Satellite’
Bangladesh entered the space era, with the perfect and successful launching of the satellite of Bangabandhu - 1. On 11 May 2018, Bangladesh entered the space technology history books as the latest iteration (পুনরাবৃত্তি) of the Falcon 9 rocket by space took off from the Kennedy Space Center launch pad 39 A in cape Canaveral, Florida. Bangladesh is going to be the 57th country in space once Bangabandhu - 1 is launched. But the launch of satellite Bangabandhu 1 by Bangladesh brings both prospects (অনুসন্ধান করা) and challenges as it is expected (প্রত্যাশিত) to provide service for television channels, mobile phone companies, direct-to home TV service providers, internet connectivity in remote areas and for weather forecast as well as save foreign currency, while the challenges remain in running the venture (ঝুঁকিপুর্ন উদ্যোগ). This satellite will meet our needs with a data transmission capacity of 1.6 Gbps. This capacity will be used up quite quickly as we fill the gaps in geographic coverage of voice and internet data communication in the outlying (কেন্দ্র থেকে দুরবর্তী) areas or start providing emergency data back up lines for essential telecom services or get existing satellite television broadcasters to switch from foreign carriers to our own. In fine, we can say that we are for the first time in space, so there will remain some challenges besides more prospects. But success depends on the policies and operation of it and people working behind it. Obviously it is an epoch-making status for us in the universe and an overwhelming progress in the development of technology communication.
