“Functions of Banglasesh Customs”
Bangladesh Customs was formed under the National Board of Revenue in 1972 after the Independence of Bangladesh through the Customs Act In 2016 Bangladesh Costoms joined Operation IRENE to stop illegal trafficking of small arms and drugs. Customs is one of the three tax collecting agencies that work under the National Board of Revenue. The other two agencies are VAT and Income Tax. The Customs wing is responsible for planning, formulation implementation, and periodic review and re-appraisal of policies on matters related to Customs. Its main functions are-
a) collection of duties and taxes at the import stage,
b) protection of domestic industry,
c) trade liberalisation.
d) facilitation of trade,
e) prevention of smuggling,
f) interdiction of prohibited goods, narcotics & objects detrimental to national security, and
g) prevention of money laundering.
→Providing training to the newly appointed officers and other staffs in the customs, excise & VAT department to make them skilled and competent so that they can easily cope up with present administrative structure.
→ Arranging subjective training programs on important changes in rules & regulations to improve efficiency and to make a service oriented administration.
→Ensuring the welfare of the staffs by arranging and Conducting departmental exams for promotion on the basis of capability.
→Conducting research on the Customs & VAT systems, revenue administration, revenue policies and planning of budget and thus contributing to the national development.
→Conducting exams for the appointment of customs and VAT advisers.
→Arranging training for the C&F agents if needed.
→Arranging specialized training on audit, scanning etc. hosted by WCO.
→Conducting PSI Training Arranging seminars, workshops and training programs as dictated by NBR.
Rice is our main food. There is plenty of rice produced in our country. We all should work hard to reduce poverty. Excessive crop production is not possible without hard work. At present, we grow advanced varities of rice.
