বায়ুদূষণ হল বায়ুমণ্ডলে এমন সব পদার্থের উপস্থিতির কারণে হওয়া দূষণ যা মানুষ এবং অন্যান্য জীবের স্বাস্থ্যের জন্য ক্ষতিকর, কিংবা জলবায়ু বা পদার্থের ক্ষতি করে।
যে জৈব রাসায়নিক প্রক্রিয়ার মাধ্যমে সবুজ উদ্ভিদ কোষে সূর্যালোকের উপস্থিতিতে, পরিবেশের বায়ুমণ্ডল থেকে গৃহীত কার্বন ডাইঅক্সাইড (CO2) ও মূল দ্বারা শোষিত জলের বিক্রিয়ায় শর্করা জাতীয় খাদ্যের সংশ্লেষ ঘটে এবং গৃহীত কার্বন ডাইঅক্সাইডের সমপরিমাণ অক্সিজেন (O₂)প্রকৃতিতে নির্গত হয়, তাকে সালোকসংশ্লেষণ বলে।
