The cost of operating a Frisbee company in the first year is $10,000 plus $2 for each Frisbee. Assuming the company sells every Frisbee it makes in the first year for $7, how many Frisbees must the company sell to break even?
Let, the company must sell x number of Frisbee to make break even.
According to question
7x = 10000 + 2x
= 7x - 2x = 10000
= 5x = 10000
∴x100005=2000
The company must sell 2,000 Frisbee to make break even.
Frank scored 26 points in a basketball game. All of his points came from either a two-point or three-point basket. If frank scored at least one three-point basket, what is the maximum number of two-point baskets that Frank could have scored?
Let, x be the maximum number of two points.
2x + (2 × 3) = 26
= 2x + 6 = 26
= 2x = 26 - 6 = 20
∴x=202=10
There are three pumps P, Q and R with a tank. P. Q and R simultaneously can fill the tank in 5 hours. Again P and Q simultaneously can fill the tank in 7 hours. Then how many hours R need to fill the tank alone?
(P + R + T) take 5 hours to fill up 1 tank
∴(P + R + T) take 1 hour to fill up 15 part of tank
Again, (P + R) take 7 hours to fill up 1 tank
∴(P + R) take 1 hour to fill up 17 part of tank
∴In 1 hour, T can fill up = (15-17) =7-535=235 part of tank
Now, 235 of tank is filled by T in 1 hour
∴1 or complete part of tank is filled by T in = 35×12 =1712 hours
There is equal number of students in each of 10 classes in a school. In a day with bad weather, three classes are 1/2 full, 5 classes are 3/4 full and two classes 1/6 th empty. If the number of absent 6 students is 74 in that particular day, what is the total number of students in 10 class?
Let, x be the total number of students in each class.
∴10x will be the number of total students
Here, number of absent in 3 class = x-x2=x2
Number of absent in 5 class=x-3x4=4x-3x4=x4
∴Number of absent in 2 class=x6
According to question (3×x2)+(5×x4)+(2×x6)=74 =3x2+5x4+x3=74 =18x+15x+4x12=74 =37x=74×12 ∴x=74×1237=24 Hence, total students = 10 * 24 = 240
