The inauguration of the much-hyped Dhaka Nagar Paribahan Service marks the journey of what is called a bus franchise system. If the rationalization of this particular bus route from Keraniganj's Ghatarchar to Kanchpur can set an example for other bus operators reluctant to join the system, this pilot project will have served its purpose. It has taken as long as six years to convince a few bus companies to join the initiative. Many bus companies still oppose this move. Despite their non- cooperative stand, it was made possible through the joint efforts of the two incumbent city Mayors.

= বহুল আলোচিত ঢাকা নগর পরিবহন সেবার যাত্রা আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে শুরু হলো যাকে বাস সেবা ব্যবস্থা হিসেবে চিহ্নিত করা হয়। এই বৃহৎ পরিকল্পনার অনেকটাই কার্যকর হয়ে উঠবে যদি কেরানিগঞ্জের ঘাটারচর থেকে শুরু করে কাঁচপুর পর্যন্ত এই বিশেষ বাস রুট অন্যান্য অনেচ্ছুিক বাস চালকদেরকে এই ব্যবস্থায় যুক্ত করা হয়। এই পরিকল্পনার সাথে কিছু বাস কোম্পানিকে যুক্ত করতে প্রায় ৬ বছরের মতো সময় লেগেছে। অনেক বাস কোম্পানিই এখানো এই পরিবর্তনের বিরোধীতা করছে। তাদের এই অসহযোগিতামূলক মনোভাব সত্ত্বেও দুইজন দায়িত্ববান নগরপিতার যৌথ প্রচেষ্টায় এটা সম্ভব হয়েছে।
