= ১৯৫২ সালের ২১ ফেব্রুয়ারি দিনটি ছিল বাঙালিদের জন্য মিছিলে মিছিলে উপচে পড়ার দিন, আত্মশক্তিতে বিস্ফোরিত হওয়ার দিন। দিনটি ছিল পাকিস্তানিদের দ্বারা নিন্দিত-গর্হিত কাজ সম্পাদনের দিন। গুলি বর্ষণের আর আতঙ্কে থাকার দিন। ভাষাভিত্তিক জাতীয়তাবাদ প্রতিষ্ঠার মাধ্যমে নিজের সংস্কৃতি ও ভাষা সংরক্ষণ হিসেবে বাঙ্গালি একুশকে একটি স্মারক হিসেবে বিবেচনা করে । একুশের অনুভূতিকে ধারণ করে প্রতিবছরই শহিদ দিবস পালিত হয়। আন্তর্জাতিক মাতৃভাষা দিবস আর স্ত ভুগুলোও এর স্মৃতিবাহক ।
