A depositor deposited Tk. 4,000 at x% simple interest and Tk. 5,000 at y % simple interest. He received annual interest of Tk. 320 on his deposited amounts at the year end. If he could deposit Tk. 5,000 at x% simple interest and Tk. 4,000 at y% simple interest, he would receive annual interest of Tk. 310. Find the value of x and y.

We know, $I = \frac{p r t}{100}$

Where, I = Interest; p = Principal; t = Time

Here, according to question for 1^st & 2^nd part $\frac{4000 \times x \times 1}{100} + \frac{5000 \times y \times 1}{100} = 320 . . . . . . . . (i)$

And, $\frac{5000 \times x \times 1}{100} + \frac{4000 \times y \times 1}{100} = 310 . . . . . . . . (i i)$

Now, from (i) we have,

$\frac{4000 x}{100} + \frac{5000 y}{100} = 320 \Rightarrow \frac{4000 x + 5000 y}{100} = 320 \Rightarrow 4000 x + 5000 y = 320 \times 100 \Rightarrow 1000 (4 x + 5 y) = 32 \times 1000 \Rightarrow 4 x + 5 y = 32 [D i v i d e b o t h s i d e b y 1, 000] ∴ 4 x + 5 y = 32 . . . . . . . . (i i i)$

Again, from (ii) we have,

$\frac{5000 x}{100} + \frac{4000 y}{100} = 310 \Rightarrow \frac{5000 x + 4000 y}{100} = 310 \Rightarrow 5000 x + 4000 y = 310 \times 100 \Rightarrow 1000 (5 x + 4 y) = 31 \times 1, 000 \Rightarrow 5 x + 4 y = 31 [D i v i d e b o t h s i d e b y 1, 000] ∴ 5 x + 4 y = 31 . . . . . . . (i v)$

$N o w, (i i i) \times 4 - (i v) \times 5, w e h a v e$

$\frac{16 x + 20 y = 128 25 x + 20 y = 155}{- 9 x = - 27} \Rightarrow x = \frac{- 27}{- 9} ∴ x = 3$

$N o w, p u t t i n g x = 3 i n (i i i) (4 \times 3) + 5 y = 32 \Rightarrow 12 + 5 y = 32 \Rightarrow 5 y = 32 - 12 \Rightarrow 5 y = 20 ∴ y = \frac{20}{5} = 4$

ans: The required value, x = 3 & y = 4

Working together pipe P, R and T can fill a trunk in 5 hours. Working together P and R can fill it in 7 hours. Find in how many hours T can fill it?

∴ In 1 hour, T can fill up $= (\frac{1}{5} - \frac{1}{7}) = \frac{7 - 5}{33} = \frac{2}{33} p a r t o f \tan k$

Now, $\frac{2}{33}$ part of tank is filled by T in = 1 hour

∴ 1 or complete part of tank is filled by T in $= \frac{35 \times 1}{2} = 17 \frac{1}{2} h o u r s$

Answer: T can fill up the tank in $17 \frac{1}{2}$ hours

A box contains 5 green, 4 yellow and 3 white balls. Three balls are drawn at random. What is the probability that they are not of same colour?

∴ P(Being 3 not same colour) $= 1 - \frac{3}{44} = \frac{44 - 3}{44} = \frac{41}{44}$

There was a shipment of cars. Out of which half was black in colour. Remaining cars were equally blue, white and red. 70% of black cars, 80% of blue cars, 30% of white cars, 40% of red cars were sold. What percentage of total cars were sold?

Now, the number of black cars that are sold $= \frac{x}{2} o f 70 % = \frac{7 x}{20}$

∴ The number of blue cars that are sold $= \frac{x}{6} o f 80 % = \frac{2 x}{15}$

∴ The number of white cars that are sold $= \frac{x}{6} o f 30 % = \frac{x}{20}$

∴ The number of red cars that are sold $= \frac{x}{6} o f 40 % = \frac{x}{15}$

∴ The total number of cars that are sold $= \frac{7 x}{20} + \frac{2 x}{15} + \frac{x}{20} + \frac{x}{15} = \frac{36 x}{60} = \frac{3 x}{5}$

∴ Percentage of cars that are sold $= (\frac{\frac{3 x}{5}}{x} \times 100) % = (\frac{3 x}{5} \times \frac{1}{x} \times 100) % = 60 %$

5.

A train passes a man in 3 second, and another train from opposite direction pass the man 4 second, both train same length. How long time need to pass the train each other?

Now, we know that time taken by the train to pass a standing man is the some time to pass the length of its own

∴ Speed of the 1^st train, $v_{1} = \frac{x}{3} m s^{- 1}$

And speed of the 2nd train $v_{2} = \frac{x}{4} m s^{- 1}$

This two train have to pass a distance of (x + x) meter = 2x meter.

As opposite direction, we know required time $= \frac{D i s \tan c e}{V e l o c i t y}$

$\Rightarrow T i m e = \frac{2 x}{\frac{x}{3} + \frac{x}{4}} = \frac{2 x}{\frac{4 x + 3 x}{12}} = \frac{2 x}{1} \times \frac{12}{7 x} = 3.42 s e c o n d s .$

∴ Time taken by the two trains to cross each other is 3.42 seconds.

A man works for certain hours. If his hourly payment increase by 20%, what percent of working hours he may reduce so that total income remain unchanged?

Now,

It present salary is 120 Tk. then previous salary was = 100 Tk.

∴ It present salary is 100 Tk. then previous salary was $= \frac{100 \times 100}{120} = \frac{250}{3} T k .$

∴ He will reduce his working hour by $= (100 - \frac{250}{3}) % = (\frac{300 - 250}{3}) % = \frac{50}{3} % = 16 \frac{2}{3} %$

There were some books of novel and non fiction. Board discuss 3 times for any novel and 5 times for any non fiction. During a year they discuss total 52 times. If there were 12 books. How many of them were novel?

$3 x + 5 (12 - x) = 52 \Rightarrow 3 x + 60 - 5 x = 52 \Rightarrow 3 x - 5 x = 52 - 60 \Rightarrow 2 x = 8 ∴ x = 4$

So, the number of novel is 4.
