Government's initiative to establish 100 Special Economic Zones (SEZ) across the country is very time-befitted plan. But this establishment which will take place in the mostly populated area- Dhaka and Chittagong is not reasonable plan. To make it very effective and efficient, it is necessary setting up 100 Special Economic Zones (SEZ) in the different areas of Bangladesh, especially less developed areas such as Northern and Southern regions in Bangladesh. So I do not agree with this decision.

The BEZA (Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority) has selected four SEZS (Special Economic Zones) - Araihazar in Narayanganj and Anwara in Chattogram, Mongla in Khulna and Bheramara in Kushtia for Japanese, Chinese and Indian investors respectively. Of the four, Mongla and Bheramara special economic zones (SEZS) are exclusively for Indians. The country-focused SEZS will be built in an arrangement where Bangladesh government will have 30 per cent equity and foreign investors the rest. The government's initiative to develop country-specific special economic zones (SEZS) has so far made little headway, thus impeding efforts to help attract sizeable foreign investments. Though the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) has already allotted substantial land under G2G (government-to-government) arrangement, factors like non-availability of soft loans and lengthy process to select the developers have slowed down the progress.

It is believed that people living in Dhaka and Chittagong are highly privileged in terms of employment generation. But people in the distant area such as northern regions do not have much opportunity to make money. Economic development leads the country's overall development. It is not possible to make the whole country developed leaving some districts lagging behind. But to decentralize Dhaka and Chittagong city, we need to establish these especial economic zones at the different places of the country. Especially rather than most densely Dhaka and Chittagong division, the concerned authority should focus comparatively less developed area like northern and southern regions. So choosing northern and southern areas for the especial economic zones will not only establish a balanced economic region but also create employment generation.

So, I do not think establishing 100 special Dhaka and Chittagong regions is not a prudent decision. To make a balanced developed nation it is necessary to decentralize Dhaka as well as Chittagong in making 100 special Economic zones.
