The cost of Dhaka's traffic congestion is estimated at $3.8 billion a year, and that's just the delays and air pollution, not the less-tangible losses in quality of life. = যানজটের কারণে ঢাকাতে প্রতিবছর ক্ষতির পরিমাণ ধরা হয়েছে ৩.৮ বিলিয়ন ডলার। এখানে মূলত সময়ের অপচয় ও বায়ু দূষণের ব্যাপারটি হিসেবে আনা হয়েছে কিন্তু জীবনমানের ক্ষতির ব্যাপারটি গনণায় আনা হয়নি। সত্য বিবর্জিত মনে হলেও এটা সত্য যে নগর সম্প্রসারণের অন্যতম প্রধান কারণ দুর্বল অবকাঠামো। কোথাও যেতে কত সময় লাগবে-এই প্রশ্নটা কোনা নগরবাসীকে করলে সে হয়তো দুটো উত্তর দিবে (১) যানজট না থাকলে ১৫ মিনিটে আর থাকলে (২) আল্লাহ্ মালুম। এই রূঢ় বাস্তবতার সমাধানকল্পে ২০১২ সালে সরকার মেট্রোরেল স্থাপনের জন্য ২.৭৫ বিলিয়ন ডলার এবং বিমানবন্দর থেকে বাস সার্ভিস চালুর জন্য ৪৫ মিলিয়ন ডলার বিনিয়োগের ঘোষণা দেয়। ঢাকাবাসীর জন্য এটি স্বস্তির।
