১। রোগে মারা গেলে বা আঘাত পেয়ে মারা গেলে dies of বা die from বসে । His father died of a heart attack.The man died from cancer/cholera. 
Longman Dictionary অনুযায়ী, Die of হচ্ছে die from এর থেকে বেশি প্রচলিত । তবে এভাবে বললে ভুল হবেঃ He died because of fever. 
২। কোন accident এ মারা গেলে in বসে । Many people die in an accident.He died in a car crash.
এরসাথে by বসালে ভুল হবে । He died by a car crash. (x) 
৩। দেশের জন্য বা কোন আদর্শের জন্য মারা গেলে die for বসে । Many men died in 1971 for our freedom. 
৪।যুদ্ধখেত্রে বা ঘুমের মধ্যে বা শান্তিতে মারা গেলে Die in বসে ।He died in the battle field.His uncle died in sleep. His mother died in peace.
৫। অবহেলায় মারা গেলে die through বসে । He died through negligence.
